APOLLO UPDATES

Congratulations to all hardworking brother/sister lawyers who heeded our call for the reorganization of APOLLO. May these resurgence of activities and interests lead to a bigger and stronger APO lawyers' network not only in NCAR but in the whole nation as well. With brod PNP Chato Marinas leading the reorganization efforts and ably assisted by the likes of brods Marvin Gonong, Ed Gayos, Raul Lambino and Bebot Bello, we have no doubt in attaining this expectation.

As the Exelboard moves around the regions for their quarterly meetings, we will enjoin our lawyer brods/sis to briefly meet with us so we can pass on to the leadership of APOLLO their current database info. This will warrant the organization of a truly national APOLLO network. We personally believe that we have more lawyer members than the largest law fraternity in the country.

"Doing Nothing is Not an Option."

APOLLO had its second reorganization meeting last September 20, 2007 at the law office of Brod Bebot Bello, Presidential Assistant on New Govt Centers, with about twenty members in attendance. Brod NP Mel Adriano also attended to lend his support and to get to know the members and officers.

APOLLO president Buddy Britanico announced that the APOLLO will have its general meeting on November 9. 2007 at the Legenda Villas, Pioneer St., Mandaluyong City. Part of the agenda will be the adoption of the By-laws of the League and thereafter the election of officers. The newly elected officers will be inducted in the fellowship immediately after the election. Included in the fellowship will be the granting of awards of recognition to recently appointed brothers to the bench, recently elected lawyers in the May 2007 national and local elections and those who have been outstanding in their fields of practice.

Among the nominees are brother/sister justices in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandigan bayan and lower courts, government tribunals and agencies. Everyone is invited to submit nominations. It is expected that this gathering will witness the rare phenomenon of both administration and opposition stalwarts coming together in the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Omega. Those wishing to attend this event are encouraged to register in advance as seats will be limited and security will be tight with the number of expected dignitaries.

Brod NP Mel Adriano has expressed confidence that the nationwide network of APOLLO can match the numbers of the well-known law fraternities since APO is the biggest fraternity in the country and is represented in the executive, legislative and judiciary branches of government as well as in the police and military.

With the reorganization of APOLLO, many of our brothers are hopeful that we will see a resurgence of service from our brothers and sisters in the legal profession. Among the programs being discussed by APOLLO are: Merit-based scholarship assistance to law students; early response bar operations; mentoring and internship program; legal assistance and policy advocacy especially on matters affecting our collegiate chapters; paralegal education; roundtable discussions and career development. To strengthen the network and provide a forum for continuous discussion, the APOLLO will create its own website and egroup and come up with a regular publication.
